Antica famiglia di origine romagnola ascritta alla nobiltà in Cesena si è propagata, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia con insediamenti cospicui in Sicilia ove si incontrano alcune varianti cognominali quali la Mela, del Mela etc.. L'avita nobiltà della famiglia Mela è confermata da una riproduzione dello stemma nel "Il Blasone cesenate", redatto dal canonico Gioacchino Sassi (1811-1880) conservato presso la Biblioteca Malatestiana di Cesena. Altra famiglia. Antica e nobile famiglia spagnola propagata in Italia con insediamenti di diverse città del sud.
