Varano de 'Melegari in der Provinz Parma im Distrikt Borgo S. Donnino war die Wiege der Melegari, die aus ihren angestammten Gebieten, die später in den Besitz der Pallavicino und der Sforza übergingen, um 1460 durch Unglück zur Flucht gezwungen wurden. Sie reparierten in der Nähe, da in Varese Ligure 1527 ein Giovanni Battista Melegari an der Pest starb; Antonio, an den sich A. Cesena in einer Chronik von 1558 als kultivierter Mann und Anhänger erinnerte, war Anfang des 16. Jahrhunderts mit seinem Sohn Orsino ebenfalls von Taglieto nach Varese Ligure gezogen. Geboren aus Orsino: Pietro Paolo und Giovanni Battista, die vom Kaiser Maximilian II. Zum Pfalzgrafen ernannt wurden. Das am 9. November 1569 in Wien datierte kaiserliche Diplom richtet sich an "den angesehenen, geliebten und SI Pietro Paolo Melegari, Doktor der SM und des Heiligen Lateranpalastes", und wird damit zum Grafen der Cäsarea-Halle und ernannt des kaiserlichen Konsistoriums, eines
