Originalmente de Corfu e Candia, passou para a Itália com Emanuele, di Spiridione, que se refugiou em Bari depois que os turcos tomaram Chania em 4 de setembro de 1692. Ele teve como filho Spiridione, n. 1713, falecido em 1790, que se casou com Lucia Bruno teve como filhos Francesco, n. em 1743, morreu em 1790, e Nicola, b. 1750, falecido em 1820. Do primeiro descendente Júlio César, casado. Elena Barlow Brow, reconhecida na nobreza com DM 26 de junho de 1895 e com ele o ramo mais antigo foi extinto. A família participou da história de Nápoles e de suas vicissitudes no passado, contribuindo não pouco para a nobreza e os cargos institucionais da própria cidade, feitos pelos reis que reinaram no Ducado de Nápoles. Muitos reinos passaram por esta província bizantina, governada por um dux. Em 638, Nápoles era dependente do governador da Sicília e posteriormente governada diretamente
