Diramazione della famiglia patrizia di Trani. Ebbe nel 1675 con un Marcello di Marzio il possesso di Lizzano (Terra d'Otranto), su cui venne infisso il titolo marchionale, e nel 1757, il feudo di Melpignano, anche in terra d'Otranto, rimasto in famiglia sino all'abolizione della feudalità. Figlio di Marcello fu Marzio, che morì senza discendenza. A lui successe la prima delle sue sorelle, Porzia, andata in sposa nel 1697 al conte di Roccaforzata Nicola Chyurlia, portando in questa casa l'anzidetto titolo di marchese di Lizzano. Il ramo di Melpignano fu ricevuto nel S.M.O. di Malta, e con D.M. 6 febb. 1907 riconosciuto nel titolo di nobile e predicato di Melpignano. La famiglia è iscritta nel Libro d'Oro della Nob. Ital. e nell'Elenco Uff. Nob. Ital. col titolo di nobile (mf.) e predic. di Melpignano (mf.), ed è rappresentata da Sergio de Luca n. 10 ott. 1846, di Giovan Battista, dec. 1923.
