Originaria della Germania e derivata dall'illustre e potente famiglia di Walsee, e trapiantata nel Friuli da un Liabordo di Walsee che aveva seguito in Italia l'Imperat. Corrado II il Salico. Per gli eminenti servigi da lui prestati a Popone Patriarca di Aquileja, si ebbe da questo in feudo il castello di Mels col titolo di visconte, titolo che passò alla sua famiglia insieme alla denominazione del feudo. I discendenti di Liabordo acquistarono nel Friuli potenza e signoria di molti castelli, e dopo cinque generazioni si divisero in tre rami principali, i cui capostipiti furono Enrico da cui discesero i Conti di Mels-Albana, Glisojo da cui derivarono i Conti di Colloredo (v.q.n.) ed Anzuto fondatore della casa dei signori di Prodolone. Al suddetto Enrico fu confermata dal patriarca di Aquileia, Gregorio di Montelongo, l'avita nobiltà ed investito del feudo di Forno e di altri beni feudali che possedeva in Pagnacco, Martignacco
