Originario de Alemania y derivado de la ilustre y poderosa familia Walsee, y trasplantado a Friuli por un Liabordo di Walsee que había seguido al Imperat en Italia. Corrado II el Salico. Por los eminentes servicios que le prestó al Patriarca Popone de Aquileja, el castillo de Mels entró en disputa con el título de vizconde, un título que pasó a su familia junto con la denominación del feudo. Los descendientes de Liabordo adquirieron el poder y el señorío de muchos castillos en Friuli, y después de cinco generaciones se dividieron en tres ramas principales, cuyos progenitores fueron Enrico, de quien descendieron los Condes de Mels-Albana, Glisojo, de donde derivaron los Condes de Colredo (vqn ) y Anzuto fundador de la casa de los señores de Prodolone. El mencionado Enrico fue confirmado por el patriarca de Aquileia, Gregorio di Montelongo, la nobleza ancestral e investido con el feudo de Forno
