Liabordo III di Mels, verso la metà del XII secolo, acquistò da un signore tedesco il feudo di Prodolone, il cui castello fu eretto poco dopo dal di lui fratello Enrico, ed i suoi discendenti si denominarono tutti signori di Prodolone. Enrico II nel 1248 ambasciatore a Venezia del Patriarca Bertoldo d'Andech per trattare la pace con quella Repubblica; Nicolò di Duringo nel 1325 maresciallo della contea di Gorizia; un altro Nicolò ambasciatore al Pontefice, spedito dal Parlamento per ottenere la remozione del Patriarca Filippo d'Alencon; Gherardo di Duringhello, dopo essersi segnalato per valor militare in Germania, passò al servizio della Repubblica Veneta che lo mandò governatore alla Canea nei primi anni del XIII secolo. Oltre il feudo omonimo, i signori di Prodolone avevano acquistato anche il condominio del castello di Zoppola, una parte del quale apparteneva ai signori di Valvasone, con dominio che mantennero sino al 1405 nel qual
