Ancient family originally from Bari, joined in 1746 to the patriciate of that city. He owned the fiefs of Binetto and Meladugno until the abolition of feudalism. In 1792 it was received for justice in the Constantinian order, in 1795 in that of Malta and in 1805 it was ascribed to the Reg. Of the Closed Squares. The title of Marquis of Torre Ruggiero, which belonged to the De Angelis family, passed to Luisa, the last of that branch, Giov's mother. Battista (dec. 1894), who had added the surname of Melodia for adoption. It is registered in the official noble list with the title of patrician of Bari (m.) And predic. of Binetto and Meladugno (mf.) for the descendants of Giovan Battista di Gaetano ascr. to the said Reg. delle P. Chiuse.
