Ancient and noble Italian family, with residence in Ostra, once Montalboddo, town and comune in the Marche region, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. According to the Italian genealogist, historian and heraldist Vittorio Spreti (San Severino Marche, January 2, 1887 - Milan, November 22, 1950), this family is a branch of the noble Menchi family which, in 1400, changed its name to that of Menchetti and thus continued to call all the descendants of that branch. Therefore the nobility of this family can date back to 1200 having always held positions that were given only to the nobles. The scholar Fontana believes instead that the Menchetti are originally from Albania and that they took refuge in Montalboddo in the 15th century for political reasons.
