Questa illustre familgia di Spagna, dove la sua origine si fa rimontare a prima del decimo secolo, venne nel regno di Napoli nel 1609 con Gonsalvo de Mendoza Cav. dell'abito di S. Giacomo, Capitano di Fanteria spagnuola, uomo di grandi meriti e molto stimato. Questa famiglia detta in origine Lopez e poi Baeza in memoria di un glorioso fatto di armi, usa ora cognominarsi de M. pel matrimonio dei genitori del detto Gonsalvo, Giovanni de Baeza e Marianna de M. y Lucan, ultima ereditiera di casa sua. Dopo secolare litigio presso le Corti spagnuole, recentemente furono riconosciuti a questa famiglia dei ricchi maioraschi ed i titoli di Duca dello Infantado, marchese di Montesclaras e Conte di Castil de Baynela.
