Lignée très ancienne. Par des références d'historiens de l'époque et d'autres retrouvés par Araldis dans les archives du registre des villes et autres privés, on pourrait affirmer, mais pas assurer, que ce bouclier ou un autre très similaire à celui-ci, est apparu initialement du XIe au XIVe siècle , en particulier dans la campagne de Don Lope Diaz de Haro contre Sancho el Fuerte de Navarra, faisant partie des troupes qui s'emparèrent de divers châteaux et villes. Les références de cette famille semblent être plus fréquemment précisées du XVe au XIXe siècle, notamment les faits de la découverte des îles Marquises (océan Pacifique), étant l'un des officiers au service de Don Alvaro de Mendaña, Adelantado del mar Oceano. Tout cela semble coïncider avec le souvenir familial de certains membres de la branche familiale Mera.
