I Mantegazza sono un'antichissima famiglia nobile di Milano, che fa capo ad un Mantegazzo, vivente nel X secolo, dal quale, per varie generazioni, discese Boschino, che nel 1061 capitanò i milanesi contro i pavesi a Campomorto, ove, a ricordo, fondò l'abbazia o priorato omonimo, che fu dotato di un patrimonio dei più lauti di Lombardia e che fu oggetto di diverse bolle pontificie e di varie decisione della Sacra Romana Rota. Fu suo discendente Francesco, padre di altro Boschino e di Paolo, espulso da Milano nel 1287 quale partigiano dei Torriani e padre di Agnese, amante di Gian Galeazzo Visconti, duca di Milano, al quale diede due figli, Giovanni Boschino, cavaliere gerosolimitano, e Galeazzo, passato al partito visconteo e consigliere di Lucchino e di Giovanni, signori di Milano, dal quale proviene il ramo estinto con Paolo, che nel 1490 fu tra i nobili cittadini, che prestarono giuramento di fedeltà al
