Ancient and illustrious Lombard family, of clear and ancestral virtue, spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. Tradition has it that it originated from the Marquises Mereghi di Jesi, a branch of which, after settling in the north of Italy, changed its surname over time due to the usual dialect inflection phenomena. This is not surprising: it was in fact a very frequent phenomenon in the branching off of a family. In any case, the Mereghettis appear to be notable in Milan until at least from the dawn of the eighteenth century, as wealthy landowners. Furthermore, many members of this family have distinguished themselves both in the exercise of liberal professions and in the development of military careers.
