The Mereghi family is originally from Jesi. This cognominization should derive from apheretic variations of the late medieval name Amerigius. Numerous characters of this surname are often mentioned in notarial documents since the past centuries, from which it appears that they were of noble condition. Worthy of appointment is that Raffaele, who died in 1897, who was created by SS Leone XIII on 17 August 1886, marquis with succession in the first-born males. This title was authorized in the kingdom with Royal Decree of 18 December 1927 and RR. LL. PP. April 9, 1928. The bibliography of this family is mentioned by the Marquis Vittorio Spreti, in his Italian Historical-Noble Encyclopedia printed in Milan in 1936. By collecting manuscripts of heraldic and noble-genealogical content, among libraries and in many public and private archives. The testimonies and documents collected for the formation of the work in question were transmitted by the family itself. As shown in the Heraldic Magazine edited by the Heraldic College of Rome. The coat of arms of the Mereghi family is emblazoned as follows: Truncated blue and gold with the red band supporting a black bird with an olive branch in its beak and accompanied on the head by three badly ordered gold stars and at the tip by a natural lictory bundle tied in red.
