Antica e nobile famiglia originaria di Milano. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo "Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane". Nei primi decenni del 1100 in seguito ad un accordo, le quattro classi nobili e cittadine milanesi dei visconti, dei capitani ,dei valvassori (subfeudatari) e dei militi del popolo, costituirono, retto da consoli, il Comune Signorile di Milano che sottraendosi poco a poco alla giurisdizione, del vescovo separò nettamente i due poteri, ecclesiastico e civile. Le famiglie cittadine erano in gran parte di ceto popolare e provenienti dalla società della Motta ch'ebbe vita sin dal 1036 in opposizione alla nobiltà. Il Guasco narra che questa famiglia si trasferì in quei secoli a Milano, acquisendone la cittadinanza e ben presto rinomanza, alti uffici di comando e di responsabilità.
