Filial da histórica família milanesa Crivelli. Por decreto do Tribunal Heráldico da Lombardia Austríaca, em 11 de agosto de 1770, o abade Don Francesco, com seus sobrinhos Prospero e Carlo Giovanni, obteve o delineamento do brasão de armas no Código Heráldico. Próspero, através de sua ancestral materna Marianna Mesmer, assumiu o confiável Mesmer com a obrigação de adicionar esse sobrenome ao seu. Com a Resolução Soberana de 21 de novembro de 1816, foi confirmada na antiga nobreza. A família, atribuída ao patrocinado milanês com direito ao tratamento de "don e mulher", foi extinta com Rita, filha de Don Giovanni e esposa do engenheiro Michele Cairati. A família está registrada na Lista Nobre Oficial da Itália de 1922, com o título de Nobre (pers.), Tratamento da mulher, na pessoa de: Rita, Giovanni, di Prospero, nascido em Milão em 29 de maio de 1850, casado lá em 16 de julho de 1870
