Família toscana antiga e muito nobre, com residência na cidade de Florença, distrito de Santo Spirito, Scala gonfalon, conhecida como Messeri, Messere ou Messera, que se espalhou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália e da Europa. A origem dessa cognominação, para dizer o mínimo de genealogistas competentes, deve ser procurada no termo "messere", um termo com o qual as pessoas que ocupavam posições eminentes como notários, juízes e médicos ou proprietários ricos de terras foram identificadas nos últimos tempos medievais. Por outro lado, essa família, no desenrolar de seu brilho, sempre conseguiu produzir uma série de homens que tornaram seu nome famoso, em empregos públicos, profissões liberais e eclesiásticas e no serviço militar. Entre eles, sem aumentar o valor dos omitidos, estão: Giacomo, proprietário de terras, florescendo em 1509; D.
