Due erano in Cormons le famiglie del Mestri; l'una insignita del titolo di barone, l'altra di quello di conte. Esse, in origine, facevano uso della stessa insigne (la capra), ed è assai probabile che fossero due rami di uno stesso ceppo. Manca la prova del loro attacco. La famiglia baronale si estinse nel secolo XIX; la comitale fiorisce ancora a Medea. Le prime notizie su quest'ultima risalgono ad un Cosolo, o meglio Bernardino detto Cosolo del Mestri, il cui nome ricorre in atti del 1524, 1533. Si sa di lui che il 1 sett. 1543 l'imperatore Ferdinando dal castello di Zuoyma gli concedette lo stemma della capra, che forse era già usato dalla famiglia, nonchè, sopra un elmo chiuso, il cimiero della capra nascente di nero, accompagnata da due ali, la destra troncata di rosso e d'argento, e l'altra troncata d'argento e di rosso.
