Così detta dalla signoria di Eboli o Evoli, fu originata dal Conte Eberto famoso guerriero, che alcuni autori vogliono fosse di origine longobarda, ed altri di origine normanna. Ha goduto nobiltà in Napoli ai seggi di Capuana e Porto ed in Capua, e fino dal 1080 fu fregiata del titolo comitale. Ebbe il contado di Trivento dal re Roberto d'Angiò e fu una delle venti case che prima di tutte le altre ebbero città in contado dal detto Re. Fu inoltre signora di 62 baronie, dei ducati di Campomele, di Castropignano e di Frignano e del principato di Crucoli. Si estinse nella famiglia d'Afflitto. Marino, valoroso capitano di Federico II Svevo, soggiogò i Perugini e gli Assisiani ribelli all'impero; Guglielmo capitano generale di cavalleria e fanteria in Romagna e Toscana pel Re Roberto d'Angiò; Giovanni giustiziere di Calabria e capitano generale nel Piemonte: Gentile Cardinale e Legato Apostolico nel reame
