Famiglia originaria di Grenoble, nella cui Certosa trovansi memorie di personaggi di quel nome fino dal secolo XV. Da un Firminio nato nel 1530 discese Pietro, che si stabilì a Livorno nel 1677, continuando ad esercitare il commercio, col quale la famiglia si era già assai arricchita in Francia. Egli ebbe tre figli: Piero Nicolò, che prese i voti nella Compagnia di Gesù e fu Rettore a Livorno; Giovanni Raffaello, del cui ramo diremo appresso, e Fortunato, che esercitò l'avvocatura e fu Gonfaloniere di Livorno nel 1735 e nel 1757. Il figlio di lui Pietro fu Presidente del Tribunale di quella città, Gonfaloniere di essa nel 1762, succedendo al padre morto in quell'anno, e, studioso delle cose patrie, aiutò il Vivoli nell'opera degli Annali di Livorno. Dalla moglie Rosa di Carlo Prini, nobile pisana, ebbe due figli: Antonio, che fu governatore delle Case Pie e del Rifugio di quella città,
