Si hanno scarse notizie di questa famiglia che dimorò un tempo a Caserta ed a Cosenza e forse è l'istessa di quella dimorante a Puzzuoli, godente quel patriziato e riconosciuta nobile per l'ammissione nelle Reali Guardie del copro nel 1843. A Tropea il primo di cui si ha notizia è quel Giulio, Sindaco dei nobili del Sedile magnum si nota - M. di Giulio. Ciò fu fatto perchè altra famiglia di tal casato poi estinta, era degli onorati del popolo, come si rileva dagli atti del Notaro Giovanni di Domenico, che a 16 Maggio 1547 ricorda un Bartolomeo M. eletto degli onorati del popolo. Il primo notato nella seguente genealogia Antonio fu uomo molto dotto uno dei restauratori dell'Accademia degli Affaticati e noto nella repubblica letteraria per le traduzioni delle favole di Fedro, di Aviano e della Batricomiomachia di Omero, molto lodate al suo tempo.
