Antiga família original e patrícia de Siena, da qual se transplantou primeiro para Roma e depois para L'Aquila. Em Siena as suas memórias mais antigas remontam a 1238, ano em que floresceu um Viano, que se assentou no magistrado supremo de Siena. Em 1261, os Mignanellis, em união com outros do partido Guelph, revoltados com o governo dos vinte e quatro Lordes, emigraram de sua terra natal e fugiram para Radicofani, mas a República enviou-lhes doze embaixadores para implorar-lhes que voltassem para casa. Landò di Ildobrandino, em 1284 foi um dos quatro supervisores do Município e, em 1294, Ranieri, monge de S. Galgano, teve o camareiro do mesmo.
