Según M. y Alberto de Launay (este último Rey de Armas de Carlos II), los de este linaje proceden de un esforzado guerrero natural de Auvernia, antigua provincia de Francia, que pasó a Cataluña, distinguiéndose en las luchas contra los moros. En premio de sus servicios obtuvo el "Campo de Milla", del que tomó el apellido. Sus descendientes se extendieron por las Montañas de Burgos, ambas Castillas y Andalucía. El mencionado Rey de Armas, Alberto de Lunay, en una certificación expedida a Salustiano M., natural de Lérida, e hijo de Salustiano M. y de doña Catalina Balaguer, cita a José de M., que casó con doña María Fernández de Córdova, de la Casa de los Duques de Medinacelo, y a doña Catalina M., esposa de Pedro Núñez de Guzmán, de la Casa de los Marqueses de Montealegre, actualmente Conde de Oñate.
