Giovanni Mendese gentil'huomo Portoghese diede origine in Sicilia alla sua famiglia chiamata nell'Idioma Siciliano M.; il quale havendo havuto della Regina Maria moglie del Rè Alfonzo le Castellanie di San Filippo, e di Villafranca, si casò in San Filippo con Pietra la Valle, con la quale procreò Biagio, Andrea, e Michele; Biagio si casò in Cefalù, e fù huomo ricco per l'affitti ch'ei hebbe di molti stati, e di Baronie. Nè nacquero da Biagio Pietro Barone del feudo d'Antimini, e Michele Barone del feudo delli Cuci nel tenitorio di Polizzi. Questi ambedue habitarono nella Città di Palermo, Pietro hebbe due moglie, la prima fu Domenica figlia di Gio.Francesco di Carcavecchia, con la quale procreò Biagio, Giacomo, Thomasa, Santa, e Lucretia, con la seconda moglie Fabio. Visse Pietro molto ricco fondò in vita una bella Cappella nel Convento del Carmine di Palermo, si morì nel 1558 e per suo testamento fatto
