Originaria di Lucca, trovasi stabilita in Firenze fin dalla metà del XIII secolo. Un Ruggerino alla battaglia di Montaperti era uno degli alfieri dell'esercito guelfo, e nel 1280 segnò la pace del Cardinal Latino. Maso, di lui figlio, fu il primo dei trentatre priori della sua casa nel 1283, e Lapo fu il primo dei tredici gonfalonieri nel 1302. Andrea di Nicolò, capitano valorosissimo ed egregio cittadino, fu eletto nel 1389 ambasciatore d'obbedienza a Bonifacio IX, fu più volte del magistrato dei Dieci, e nel 1393 andò per incarico del Comune a Perugia per calmare le fazioni che desolavano quella città. Giovanni suo figlio, essendo gonfaloniere nel 1434 ricevè da Eugenio IV lo stocco ed il cappello benedetto. Da lui nacque Pietro che nel 1471 andò ambasciatore a Sisto IV che lo armò cavaliere dello Speron d'Oro; nel 1472 fu nel Consiglio di guerra contro i Volterrani, e nel 1475
