Die Familie Mingazzi war sehr alt und eine der bekanntesten in der toskanischen Romagna. Sie ließ sich zu der Zeit in Faenza nieder, als diese Stadt von den Manfredi regiert wurde. Es stammte aus Modigliana und hatte nach alter Tradition einen gemeinsamen Ursprung mit den Grafen von Guidi di Bagno. Der Vorläufer davon war ein Weißer, der im dreizehnten Jahrhundert lebte. Aus ihm wurde Mengaccio geboren, der Generalstaatsanwalt der Manfredi war, und aus Mengaccio di Modigliana Antonio I., Vater eines Guido, Administrator von Astorre Manfredi. Ein anderer Mengaccio stammt von Guido ab, der damals Generalschatzmeister von Guido Antonio di Montefeltro, Graf von Urbino, war, und von diesem Mengaccio wurde Antonio II geboren, von dem der Zweig von Faenza abstammte und daher die Mengacci noch in Österreich lebten.
