Apellido catalán con casas solares en las villas de Sant Celoni, del partido de Arenys de Mar (Barcelona), y de San Juan de Sirueda. Pasó a Aragón, fundando nueva casa en la villa de Maella, del partido judicial de Caspe (Zaragoza). De la casa de San Celoni fué Vicente M., Caballero de la Orden de San Juan, recibido en la Castellanía de Amposta. A la casa de San Juan de Sirueda perteneció Diego Jerónimo M., natural de la mencionada villa, que casó con doña Tolomea Torres, de igual naturaleza, y fueron padres de Bernardino M. y Torres, natural de Zaragoza, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Isabel Ruiz de Echevarría, de la misma naturaleza (hija de Martín Ruiz de Echevarría, natural de Echevarría de Guevara, en Álava y de doña Francisca N.). De esa unión nació Diego Jerónimo M. y Ruiz de Echevarría, natural de Zaragoza y Caballero de la Orden de Montesa, en la que ingresó el 10 de Octubre de 1632.
