Alte und berühmte kalabrische Familie mit klarer und angestammter Tugend, die sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen Italiens verbreitet hat. Über seine Entstehung sind mehrere Legenden überliefert. Einige behaupten, dass sie ursprünglich aus Griechenland stammte und tatsächlich würde ihr Nachname aus dieser Matrix hervorgehen, vom griechischen "μεράρχης", Kapitän, Decurion; andere wollen, dass es von den Markgrafen Mira von Palermo abstammt. Zweifellos scheint seine wertvolle Besiedlung im Königreich der beiden Sizilien seit mindestens dem späten 17. Jahrhundert mit größeren Konzentrationen in Kalabrien zu sein. Diese Familie zog dann adlige und berühmte Verwandte unter Vertrag; vor allem das mit den edlen Metaxà, Grafen von Kefalonia, zu denen die Metaxà-Mirarco zählen. Im Laufe der Jahrzehnte hat sich die Familie Mirarco immer dadurch ausgezeichnet, dass sie bemerkenswerte Persönlichkeiten hervorgebracht hat, die in der Ausübung freier Berufe, in lokalen Verwaltungen, in militärischen und kirchlichen Karrieren wertvoll waren.
