Antica famiglia, originaria di Genova, passata nel reame di Napoli nel secolo XIII. Ebbe in feudo S.Antimo di cui ebbe l'ultima intestazione a 7 settembre 1796 Giuseppe Maria, figlio di Francesco Maria principe di Teora, del quondam Giuseppe Maria, Friano, Castelnuovo, Civitacampomarano ed altre terre. Tenne anche la giurisdizione criminale al patriziato di Benevento ed alla nobiltà di Viterbo. Ricevuta nell'Ordine di Malta dal 1703 in persona del Bailo di Venosa F.Erberto, avendone fatta la prova da Sigismondo primo stipite nel 1423, ed ascritta al Reg. della famiglia dei cavalieri di giustizia. Fu decorata del titolo di principe di Teora dal 1689, e, per successione di un ramo della casa Carafa, del titolo di marchese di Calitri con anzianità del 1682. Titoli riconosciuti con RR. Rescritti 5 marzo 1843 e 15 maggio 1858. Dei feudi di Calitri col titolo di marchese, Conza, Teora, col titolo di principe, Castiglione e S.Maria
