Si disse dapprima degli Orsi, fu agnatizia dei Caccianemici e perciò della stirpe degli antichi Orsi di Bologna, detti anche d'Alberto d'Orso, i quali vantano un Gerardo figliuolo di Alberto d'Orso, assunto al Pontificato nell'anno 1144 col nome di Lucio II. Capostipite degli Orsi fu Orso, nipote di un tal Gerardo, fondatore nel X secolo del castello di Galliera. Diramò precisamente da un Alberto d'Orso, figlio di Giacobino e di Imeldina da Roffano signore nel 1300 della villa di Cadaserta. Avo di Alberto fu Michele, di Nascinguerra, annoverato fra i nobili privilegiati del comune di Bologna nel 1240. Alberto e Giacomo, di Nascinguerra, furono l'uno arciprete e l'altro canonico della Pieve di Monte S. Giovanni che beneficarono coi loro testamenti del 1272 e del 1282. Questa famiglia nelle antiche carte è nominata con la dizione patronimica de Urso, da cui il casato de Ursis, ch'essa portò per circa quattro secoli,
