Família napolitana antiga e muito nobre, cujas memórias mais antigas datam do século XIII, que gozavam de nobreza em Nápoles, no Sido di Nido e Portanova, onde a família, em 1330, possuía o distrito chamado "L'Appennino delli Moccia". Durante sua história, desde o século XIV, os Moccia, ricos e poderosos, possuíam numerosos Baronies, incluindo Colle d'Anchise, Castromezzano, Ceriglialo, Cisterna, Colledanchise e os condados de Nicastro, Fontanelle e Sant'Angelo a Cupolo ; os marquisados de Casabona (Calabria Citra), Montemalo (Principato Ultra), com o marquês Pietro di Montemalo em 1683 e Montemari, com o marquês Scipione Moccia em 1750, também vice-presidente de Portanova em Nápoles. Eles também se tornaram duques de Scarfizzi, anteriormente Carfizzi (Calabria Citra), com Domenico Moccia, em 1710, e duques de Ferrazzano (Principato Ultra), em 1699, na pessoa de Vitaliano Moccia. Numerosos e significativos monumentos desta família surgem em Nápoles, em San Pietro a Maiella e em Santa Maria
