Famiglia genovese, che si stabilì al tempo dell'invasione francese con Giuseppe; capo-sarto dell'Esercito. Chi dette nome alla famiglia fu Francesco, di Giuseppe, insigne pittore, nato in Ancona il 21 marzo 1800 e morto a Roma il 9 febbraio 1895. Pio IX gli fece affrescare in Vaticano le stanze vicini a quelle di Raffaello e lo fece cavaliere di S. Gregorio Magno, mentre era stato fatto cavaliere di S. Silvestro da Gregorio XVI. Nel momento della follìa repubblicana, nel 1849 , si arruolò nel Battaglione Volontari Universitari Romani. Per re Carlo Alberto dipinse "Il Giudizio di Salomone" e ne ebbe un guiderdone prima, il 24 dicembre 1842, l'essere ascritto quale suo suddito con la naturalità sarda, poi, con decreto del 31 dicembre 1842, l'essere nominato cavaliere dell'Ordine Civile di Savoia.
