Famiglia assai antica ed illustre, delle cui origini non si hanno prove certe, ma la si vuole Longobarda, insediata nel territorio di Lecco prima del X secolo. Tale cognominizzazione dovrebbe derivare da toponimi, come Burago di Molgora (MI) e Olgiate Molgora (LC), ma è pure possibile che prenda il nome dal torrente Molgora, per una vicinanza del luogo d'abitazione della famiglia, appunto, con quel torrente. Appartennero, a questo casato, membri di elevate virtù, tra i quali ricordiamo l'abate milanese Luigi, vivente nel 1700, autore di numerose epistole; Ernesto, sottotenente in seconda, vivente nel 1859; Antonio, di Francesco, torinese, nominato nella Gazzetta piemontese del 3 Agosto 1826; Achille, scrittore piemontese, vivente nel 1850. La presenza dell'arma e del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia Molgora, inoltre, ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta dalla casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti
