El linaje de esta familia es originaria de Provenza, su principal ancestro y tronco propagador se ignora por su remota antigüedad, siendo por tanto tradicional e inmemoiral la nobleza de sus hijos, los cuales han gozado siempre y en todas partes de la consideración y preeminencias correspondientes a sus lustrosos nacimientos, no siendo la más esclarecida de sus líneas la que se arraigó y floreció en Francia. Entre personalidades ilustres de este apellido podemos mencionar a Don Jean Selles, Señor de Chimeri, quien fue un ilustre Capitán de Armas del ejercito de la Guardia del Duque Lorraine Charles IV, tuvo por hijo a Laurent Selles. Muchos caballeros de este antiguo y noble linaje siguieron la tradición de guerreros de mar y tierra, destacándose como valerosos hombres. Se estableció una rama de esta familia en Cataluña, en el ayuntamiento de La Guardia, en el partido judicial de Tremp y provincia
