De origen normando, tomó su nombre del feudo de Molise de su propiedad. De hecho, se pretende que los grandes territorios que le pertenecían en el reino de Nápoles se llamaran el campo de Molise, así como Molise fue llamado un castillo construido por él cerca de las ruinas de Tiferno. Poseía 24 feudos, y los condados de Bojano, Campobasso, Catanzaro, Celano, Isernia, Marigliano, Molise, Venafro y Vitichiuso, y disfrutaba de la nobleza en Nápoles fuera del asiento y en Sicilia, y fue una de las siete grandes casas del reino de Nápoles. No hay noticias de esta familia. El escudo de armas de la familia Molise es: dorado, con la banda azul.
