La famiglia aggiunse il cognome Molinari sulla fine del secolo XVIII quando Luigi, figlio di Giovani Francesco, fu istituito erede universale dal marchese Antonio Molinari, figlio del marchese Bartolomeo con testamento nuncupativo implicito pubblicato con istrumento del 10 gentile. 1794. Il detto marchese Bartolomeo, padre di Antonio, era fratello di Marta, ava paterna del detto Luigi, e aveva ottenuto il titolo di marchese con diploma dell'imper. Carlo VI del 27 giugno 1725 e lo aveva poscia appoggiato al feudo di Mettone del quale era stato investito l'11 aprile dell'anno dopo. Non fu quindi difficile alla famiglia ottenere nel 1888 la rinnovazione del titolo marchionale. Ma la famiglia era nobile anche prima della detta rinnovazione. Oriunda di Castano Primo, possedeva già prima del 1500 in quel luogo un proprio palazzo, ornato di stemma gentilizio, e Girolamo maestri, che ebbe in moglie la già menzionata Marta Molinari, fondò nel 1712 con atto
