Antica famiglia, di chiara ed avita virtù, originaria di Pontremoli, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Il primo di lei, di cui si abbia certa novella, è un Giuseppe che, nel 1603, assunse dalla Camera ducale di Parma l'affitto della caccia di Busseto. Successivamente, invece, si ha notizia di un Antonio, "orbo che insegna ai canarini", secondo l'espressione della patente di famigliarità con passaporto, che ottenne dal duca il 18 luglio 1707. Giovanni, di Giacomo, come tenente nella compagnia delle reali guardie del corpo, partecipò al torneo famoso dei nobili del ducato datosi a Parma per celebrare le nozze del duca D. Ferdinando con l'arciduchessa Maria Amalia. (ved.: "Descrizione delle feste per le nozze di D: Ferdinando...", Parma, Stamperia Reale, 1769). Tal Giovanni, che aveva sposato una Paternò, fu promosso colonnello del terzo suburbano di Parma con patente del 25 gennaio 1781 e morì nel 1803. La
