L'origine de cet illustre patronyme, par des références d'historiens de l'époque et d'autres découvertes par Araldis dans les archives du registre des villes et autres privés, nous pourrions affirmer, mais non assurer, que ce blason ou un autre très similaire à celui-ci, apparu initialement du XIe au XIVe siècle, notamment dans la cour personnelle de Doña Urraca López de Haro, nommée Dame d'Estella au début du XIIIe siècle. Les références de cette famille semblent être précisées plus fréquemment du XVe au XIXe siècle, en particulier les faits de la découverte des îles Marquises (océan Pacifique), étant l'un des officiers au service de Don Alvaro de Mendaña, Advance of la Mer Océane. Tout cela semble coïncider avec la mémoire familiale de certains membres de la branche familiale Couto.
