Noble maison de la Marche, connue dès le XVème siècle, dont les membres sont qualifiés seigneurs de la Maison-Rouge, de Montostre, de Rechignevoisin, de la Barde, etc., et dont le château existe encore près de la Souterraine (Creuse). Parmi les personnages les plus marquants de cette famille on signale: Jacques, prieur commandataire du Monastère de Sainte-Marie de Viaye en Velay (1748-1754). Ce personnage dut se nomination à son parent François-Xavier Mondain de la Maison-Rouge alors abbé général de l'abbaye de Grandmond, de laquelle dépendait le monastère de Sainte-Marie de Viaye en Velay. Ayant reçu les derniers sacrements à Viaye, le 7 mars 1752, de la main de frère Martial sous-prieur des Carmes du Puy, Jacques de la Masion-Rouge ne mourut que dans les premiers mois de 1754. Il fut remplacé par Messire Louis de Banne d'Avejan.
