Famiglia di antica e nobile tradizione originaria di Milano trasferitasi da tempo assai remoto in Val di Lamonee propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli in diverse regioni d'Italia. Un Rondinino, soprannominato Rondinone per via della sua notevole corporatura, suo capostipite, soldato valoroso, nel 1425 fece le sue prime armi sotto le insegne di Guidantonio Manfredi signore di Faenza e sconfisse l'esercito toscano e fece prigioniero di guerra Nicolò Piccinino. Da lui si spiccarono tre rami, due ne assunsero il nome e si stabilirono, uno a Faenza e l'altro a Roma l'altro assunse il soprannome e si stabilì in Matera. Una delle più belle glorie del primo ramo fu senza meno il Beato Bartolomeo dell'ordine de'Predicatori morto nel 1532. Il ramo poi di Roma vanta un Cardinale di S.R. Chiesa nella persona di Paolo-Emilio creato dal Pontefice Urbano VII e che fu anche Vescovo di Assisi, e due cavalieri gerosolimitani,
