Nobile famiglia siciliana, con residenza in Trapani, detta Mongiardini o Bongiardino, alla quale appartennero: Antonio, che fu senatore di Trapani nel 1415-16; Giovanni, che tenne la stessa carica nell'anno 1448-49 ed un Francesco nel 1538-39. Tal famiglia, inoltre, è passata sin dal 1648 all'ordine di Malta. Non sappiamo se quel Giovan Battista, dottore in leggi, procuratore fiscale supernumerario del tribunale del R. Patrimonio 1790 e quel Placido, procuratore fiscale dello stesso tribunale 1810, siano appartenuti a questa stessa famiglia. La famiglia levò per arme. Partito: nel 1° d'azzurro, all'albero di palma al naturale, sostenuto da due leoni affrontati e controrampanti al tronco, nel 2° d'azzurro alle tre bande d'oro. Alias. Di verde, a tre monti d'oro, moventi dalla punta, quello del centro cimato da un albero di pino del secondo. Altro ramo. Il luogo di Mongiardino nel XII secolo faceva parte dei domini Obertenghi della marca Ligure detti poi Terre
