Famiglia nobile e feudataria di Forlì, investita nel XVII secolo della signoria di Castel Saliano con titolo di conte. Evangelista segretario di Caterina Sforza nel 1500; Marcolino famigliare di Sisto V e governatore di Montalto e castelli annessi; Giacomo, generale dei Carmelitani e cavaliere di S. Giacomo. A questa famiglia ha appartenuto il titolo di Conte, titolo che solevasi dagli imperatori a coloro che erano al loro fianco. Da questi Conti si sceglieva coloro che venivano destinati a soprintendere agli uffizi del regio palazzo, ed altri erano mandati al governo delle provincie dell'impero ed a gurdare i confini. Erano poi altri conti, estranei ai cennati uffizi, come quelli addetti all'annona, al commercio; ed anche i provveditori dell'esercito si ebbero quel titolo. Ai tempi dei Goti la dignità di Conte fu pur mantenuta a parecchi pubblici funzionari; ed i Longobardi ancora dissero i loro governatori conti o castaldi.
