Antichissima famiglia forlivese celebre per vecchi domini ed uomini illustri. Giacomo nel 1364 compilò le leggi statutarie e scrisse gli annali della sua patria dal 1050 al 1373; Andrea cavaliere aurato e pretore di Siena nel 1420; Ranieri nel 1427 ebbe il governo d'Imola con piena giurisdizione, e poscia quello di Perugia; Bartolomeo Vescovo di Bertinoro nel 1511; Andrea famoso condottiero della cavalleria di Cesare Borgia, a nome de quale prese possesso di Sarsina; Baldassarre ebbe il titolo di conte per sè e suoi discendenti con privilegio 29 Aprile 1530. Questa famiglia, estinta nella casa Monsignani, ebbe pure il titolo di marchese dal principio del XVIII secolo. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri,
