Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Alain de Rohan, vivant en 1150, père de Josselin, marié à Mabille de Montfort, dont: Olivier, qui garda le nom de famille et qui a continué la filiation; Josselin, évêque de Rennes, mort en 1234; Jean, prit les armes en 1202, pour venger la mort du duc Artur; Guillaume, l'un des écuyers du combat des Trente en 1350; Guillaume, chancelier de la reine Isabeau de Bavière, marié en 1414 à Bonne Visconti, dite de Milan; Artur, trempa dans le meurtre du prince Gilles de Bretagne en 1450, se fit moine pour éviter les poursuites du duc Pierre II, et mourut archevêque de Bordeaux en 1478; Jean, maréchal de Bretagne, grand-maître des eaux et forêts, puis amiral de France sous Louis XI en 1461, mort en 1466, laissa d'Anne de Keranraiz: Marie, mariée en 1443 à Louis de Rohan, seigneur de Guémené; Philippe, chancelier de Bretagne, mort en 1516, père de Catherine, dame du Bois-de-la-Roche, mariée vers 1535 à René de Volvire, baron de Ruffec, d'où la vicomté du Bois-de-la-Roche, a passé successivement aux l'Olivier de Saint-Maur, Saint-Pern et Magon de la Balue.
