Very ancient and very noble Genoese family, originally from Gavi, known as Montaldo or Montalti, of clear and ancestral virtue, spread over the centuries in different regions of Italy, with major settlements in Sardinian territory. Among the first characters we have news about, we remember: Corrado Montaldo, who sold his part of the Lordship of Gavi to the Municipality of Genoa, in 1279; Guglielmo Montaldo, captain of the galley against the Pisans, flourishing in 1291; Paolo Montaldo, ambassador to the Pope in 1340 and to the king of France in 1342. After the failed coup against Doge Gabriele Adorno, the family moved to Asti, finding refuge at the Visconti court. Only in 1371, with the appointment of Domenico Fregoso as doge, did the members of the family return to their homeland. Leonardo Montaldo (Ceranesi, 1319 - Genoa, 14 June 1384), of the late Paolo Montaldo, consul of Caffa and ambassador
