La famiglia è originaria di Reggio Emilia, illustrata dal prestigioso generale Emilio che, nominato ufficiale d'ordinanza effettivo di S.A.R. dal Duca Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia-Aosta nel marzo 1894 e quindi, dopo il quadriennio, ufficiale d'ordinanza onorario, fu richiamato appena promosso maggiore nel 1907, e nominato aiutante di campo effettivo, con l'incarico della educazione d istruzione dei due giovani principi, i Duchi delle Puglie e di Spoleto. Durò nell'alta carica fino al febbraio 1911, epoca nella quale S.A.R. il Duca d'Aosta lo richiamò da Londra per affidargli al carica di suo Primo Aiutante di Campo, nella quale continua tuttavia. Ebbe da S.M. il Re il titolo trasmissibile di conte con R. Decreto di motu proprio del 29 luglio 1925 e successive RR. LL. PP. dell'II marzo 1926.
