IVi residia desde o século XII. e em Marengo eles possuíam bens, como evidenciado pelo instrumento de 19 de dezembro de 1168 (Cartario Alessandrino, I, 83); Martino di M. é testemunha em andamento em 1º de maio de 1196, relacionada à troca de terras entre o mosteiro de Rivalta e a Trovamala (Cartari di Rivalta); Enrico di M. está entre os vassalos de Val Borbera que juram lealdade aos acordos feitos entre o marquês Malaspina e o município de Tortona em relação ao castelo de Mongiadrino; em 19 de setembro de 1228, a comunidade de Capriata, incluindo Andrea di M., prometeu a Gênova que não entraria em nenhum tratado por cinco anos;
