El primitivo solar de este apellido radicó en la ciudad de Valladolid, del que salió una rama de mucho lustre, que se estableció en Sevilla. Antonio de M., llamado también Antonio de Espinosa y M., nació en Valladolid y pasó a Sevilla, de la que fué Veinticuatro. Allí casó con doña Mariana de Góngora, natural de la mencionada ciudad, naciendo de esta unión Gaspar de M. y Góngora, natural y Veinticuatro de Sevilla, Tesorero y Juez de la Contratación de la misma ciudad y Caballero de la Orden de Santiago. Tuvo por esposa a doña Ana de Tapia y Milla, de igual naturaleza (hija de Rodrigo de Tapia y Vargas, natural y Veinticuatro de Sevilla, y de doña María Milla, natural de Madrid). Procrearon a Francisco de M. y Tapia, natural de Sevilla, Capitán de Caballos Corazas y Caballero de la Orden de Santiago desde el 7 de Enero de 1642.
