Non hà dubbio alcuno che la Famiglia di Cardona, della quale se ne scorge al presente un ramo transpiantato nella Città di Napoli, non essere, e per la sua antichità, e per la chiarezza della sua origine, e per gli huomini illustri, che da essa sono stati in ogni tempo prodotti, una delle più nobili della Spagna, in molti luoghi della quale divisa, in ciascuno d'essi il proprio suo splendore conservando, bellissime memorie se ne ritrovano appresso degli Scrittori di quei Regni. Riconosce questa famiglia la sua più antica origine da Alava in Biscaglia, ove tiene la sua casa Solariega, che altro non ne dinota, se non che la possessione in quella nobilissima regione d'una Casa, dalla quale, senza'alcun'altra prova, l'eccessiva nobiltà del possessore vien pienamente provata; mentre nell'invasioni de' Mori nella Spagna, in quei montuosi luoghi della Biscaglia, la maggior parte della Nobiltà Spagnola ritiratasi, ivi sicuramente intatto sempre
