The Morandos come from three different locations: Levanto, Capriata and perhaps Piacenza. The name is very ancient: in the deeds of the notary Lanfranco dated 18 August 1214, Giacomo Morando appears among other Piacenza merchants residing in Genoa. Thus in the purchase and sale contract, notary Giberto da Nervi 5 wk. 1275, Oberto Morando is mentioned. At 11 Feb. 1278 Padlock of Percivale Morando appoints Giacomo Morando as his attorney to verify from the Municipality of Genoa the pay owed to him for the guard made at the Castle of Montalto (not. Giovanni de Corsio). Tommaso Morando di Levanto was elected in 1346 by Doge Giovanni di Murta as one of the 4 war supervisors against the exiles and rebels of Monaco (see Giustiziani). In the same year Giacomo was captain of galleys in Simone Vignoso's army. In 1403 Castellano made eldest son by the Venetians on the Black Sea.
